10 No-Prep Party Games for Kids You Can Start Right Now
23 October 2026
The best party games are the ones you can start the moment someone says "I'm bored." No shopping, no printing, no hunting for a timer. These 10 need only the people in the room (and maybe a couch cushion), so you can run them any time.
Games that need nothing at all
- Twenty Questions. One person thinks of something; everyone else asks yes-or-no questions. That's the entire setup.
- Would You Rather. Make up silly choices on the spot. Kids will start inventing their own within a minute.
- Two Truths and a Lie. Each player says three statements and the group guesses the lie.
- Never Have I Ever. A circle and a few fingers is all the equipment needed.
- Charades. A list of words in your head — or shouted out by the audience — is enough.
- Truth or Dare. Keep dares family-friendly and silly. Players choose truth or dare on their turn.
Games that need only the room itself
- Sleeping Beauty: Don't Laugh. One player "sleeps" and everyone else tries to make them smile with faces and jokes. No props, no setup.
- Sit, Stand, Lie Down. Pick a setting like a doctor's office and three players act it out. One sits, one stands, one lies down — always.
- The Floor Is Lava. Pull a few cushions off the couch and you have a course. Add a twist like freezing on "Lava!"
- Sleeping Beauty: The Freeze Spell. Play a song from a phone, dance around, and use any "wand" you can find to freeze the dancers.
Making a no-prep game work
- Explain it in one sentence. If a rule takes more than a breath to say, simplify it.
- Let the kids steer. No-prep games are easy to modify on the fly — add a twist if energy drops.
- Skip the props games for later. Wacky Wardrobe Relay and Witch's Pantry Taste Test need a bit of gathering, so save those for planned occasions.
